AIN Leaders Take Action at Legislature

AIN Leaders Reaffirm Support of Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Valley Interfaith Project Organizer, Jorge Montiel, briefs Leaders on the latest actions by Representative Pearce and Sheriff Arpaio

On January 22, sixty Leaders from all Arizona Interfaith Network organizations initiated actions at the Arizona Legislature on the state budget, workforce development, the Housing Trust Fund and anti-immigration legislation.

The day included a budget briefing by George Cunningham, Deputy Chief of Staff for Budgeting for Governor Napolitano and the Governor's Chief of Staff, Dennis Burke.

AIN leaders met with 15 legislators including Senator Tom O'Halleran (R-1) and Representative Pete Hershberger (R-28).

One important outcome was an agreement with Senate President Tim Bee (R-30) to become the prime sponsor for the Arizona Career Pathways Initiative, now SB1361. This bill will create state funding for labor market intermediaries like JobPath, a Tucson based training strategy considered the best in Arizona and one of the best in the United States.

AIN leaders will be active at the legislature throughout the session.
